Oral Proficiency Modules Produced Following the 2018 ACTFL Familiarization Workshop
Following the successful conference on Southeast Asian Language Teaching: New Directions at Cornell University in 2017, the ACTFL Familiarization Workshop was held at the University of Michigan in April 2018 with the sponsorship of the LUCE Foundation. As a follow-up to the workshop, language-specific groups of Southeast Asian Language instructors from various institutions worked in collaboration from May to October 2018 to design modules for oral proficiency instruction. Each module consists of lessons for three or more class sessions.
The collaboration procedure was as follows:
1. Each participant (A & B) creates a draft separately and uploads it by May 13
2. Participants comment on each other’s draft (A comments on B's draft and vice-versa) and posts it by May 27
3. A and B consolidate the drafts into one document, and A posts it by June 10
4. Reviewers provide feedback to the group and post the consolidated feedback by Aug 12
5. A and B review the comments to collaboratively revise the draft and B posts the revision by Aug 26
6. Reviewer provides final comments and posts it by Sept 9
7. If more revision is needed, A and B work together to finalize the lesson plan, and A posts it by October 1, 2018
